The Heating Blanket Experts

Electric Concrete Curing Blankets by ALCO provide heat when and where contractors need it. The winter elements don’t need to stop your next concrete pour or masonry project. Why use a heated concrete blanket? Curing is the balancing of moisture and temperature in concrete on time so that it can form bonds the mixture was designed to achieve. Immediately after placement and finishing, curing takes place so that the concrete may bond to the desired strength and durability. Heated concrete blankets can ensure this happens quickly and efficiently in cold winter conditions.

Pour Concrete In Cold Temperatures

Concrete pouring in cold weather can be accomplished with the use of our heated Cement Curing Blankets. Insulated & heated electric construction blankets are ideal for precast and flatwork contractors. You can also use a combination of non-heated insulated concrete blankets with these heated insulated cement blankets.

Cold Weather Concrete

Cold weather concrete can be established as a period of more than three days where some specific conditions occur. The American Concrete Institute under ACI 306 defies that concrete will be exposed to cold weather when the following conditions exist:

  • The average daily air temperature is less than 5°C (40°F) and,
  • The air temperature is not greater than 10°C (50°F) for more than one-half of any 24 hour period.

Cold Weather Concrete Objectives

When concrete is being managed under cold weather, concrete must be protected from freezing shortly after being poured. Also concrete must be able to develop required strength for the safe removal of forms while reducing the circumstances where excessive must be applied to help concrete develop the required strength. Other important factors that must be considered are the proper curing conditions that prevent cracking and provide the intended serviceability of the structure.

User Guide On How To Use A Heated Curing Blanket

The instructions in this guide include a number of rules on how to safely use your blanket, and how to extend its lifespan.

RULES FOR GENERAL USE:

  • Before turning on the power, make sure to fully unfold the blanket. In no circumstances can you use the cord as a handle – doing this can pose serious health risks.
  • You must never roll or fold the blanket over itself if the power is on. Avoid overlapping with other blankets as well. The way it works is simple – the heat spreads through radiation and conduction. If you roll a blanket over itself or stack it with another one, both surfaces will be next to each other and will begin producing excessive amounts of heat. There could be serious consequences such as burning or charring. If you want to roll the blanket, always turn the power off.
  • Before turning the blanket on, be sure to remove items which are bad heat conductors. Examples include rubber, wood, plastic, paper, and others.
  • Put the blanket in a flat position on the surface when heating it up. The gray side is heated, and the yellow side is non-heated.
  • The designated voltage must be precisely applied. An example would be 110V to a 110-volt blanket.
  • Before starting, check if the extension cables have the appropriate size to manage the blankets’ amperage.
  • If you want to extend the life of your blanket, be sure to roll it or put is in a flat position when storing it. In no circumstances should you fold it because that can cause Blankets can be folded only during shipping.
  • Take note that if you put tarps or curing blankets on the heated blanket, there will be a significant rise in temperature below it.
  • By letting the blanket work for longer periods of time, it will produce more heat and offer the best protection.

THAWING INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Be sure to remove any snow from the blanket’s surface before turning it on.
  • Using a tarp or an insulated curing blanket above the heated blanket is a great idea if you want to raise the temperatures below your blanket. You could get as much as an additional 15ºF.

CORRECT USE AND GOOD STORAGE CONDITIONS CAN HELP IN EXTENDING THE LIFE OF THE BLANKET

The heated blanket is usually not hot to the touch. If you want to try it out, the most efficient way would be to check for continuity. If it works fine for long periods of time, everything is ok. The heated blanked works like a crock pot. If you want to lift the blanket, the heat could escape. Because of this, it would be wise to put one more layer of insulation or tarps on top of your blanket. By doing this, the heat won’t escape, and you will have better protection against wind or cold. You should note that the yellow side in non-heated and is usually UP. The gray side is heated and is DOWN. The blanket will arrive with a 6-feet-long power cord. You will need to attach a plug. The socket plug is included and shipped loose.

Testimonials

"Ordered two custom covers from Alco for a pair of fire columns. Both are a perfect fit. I'm especially impressed by the quality of fabric and construction. They even have convenient tabs on the side that help with putting them on and taking them off. First class customer service too!" - George Pytlik

"I ordered a custom cover by providing a drawing and Alco provided an accurate, excellent cover. I was unsure of the unseen, (by me), HD material, but it turned out great. I was impressed enough to immediately order a second custom cover for another application. Custom covers fit, look, and perform so much better than generic covers. To me, Alco covers are worth their price and are a true value.." - Ron Fasola

"The cover fit perfectly and seems to be of good quality. Alcocovers did a fantastic job. I would certainly recommend using them for any of your cover needs.." - Charles Smith
